About the event

Join us for a free session in learning how to step in and make a difference in your community with our Bystander Intervention Training. This free 2 hour workshop, designed by HERSANA aims to help services, businesses, community groups and public members understand the importance of how to become active bystanders. This session gives people the skills to recognise and challenge misogynistic behaviour in their everyday life as well as empower them take a safe and active stand against discrimination across a range of protected characteristics (such as gender, sexuality and ethnicity).

Who is it for?

This course is designed for anyone who would like to find out more about anti-social behaviours, sexual harassment and misogyny and how to intervene when witnessing such behaviours.

What will I learn?

  • How to recognise anti-social, sexual harassment and misogynistic behaviour and understand how it contributes to unsafe public spaces for certain groups of people.
  • Understand the impact of sexual harassment and misogynistic behaviour.
  • Learn and practice tools and techniques to challenge this behaviour in a safe way.

Session Outline

Through an exploration of a series of scenarios and role play, using film and a comprehensive handbook, the Bystander Intervention Training course creates a safe environment to explore the ideas and teaches trainees how to intervene as an active bystander across a range of settings.

  • Recognising harassment, misogynistic and anti-social behaviour.
  • Understand how the above contribute to unsafe public spaces.
  • Understand the impact of harassment and anti-social behaviour.
  • Learn and practice tools and techniques to challenge this behaviour in a safe way.
  • Introduction to resources and safe spaces available to people at-risk and survivors of harassment and gender-based abuse.
